Roles & Responsibilities of
the Advisory Committee
Strategic Direction
• Formulate and approve long-term strategic plans and priorities for AFRICDA.
• Ensure alignment of all activities with the organization’s mission and vision.
Policy and Governance
• Establish and enforce policies that govern the operations and conduct of AFRICDA.
• Oversee the implementation of organizational policies to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
Financial Oversight
• Approve annual budgets and financial plans.
• Monitor financial performance and ensure the fiscal responsibility of AFRICDA.
Program Oversight
• Evaluate and approve major programs and initiatives.
• Monitor the progress and impact of AFRICDA’s activities to ensure they meet established goals.
Membership and Representation
• Ensure diverse and inclusive representation within the committee and broader organization.
Forfeiture of Membership
Members may forfeit their membership under the following circumstances:
- Failure to attend three consecutive meetings without valid reason.
- Engagement in activities that conflict with the interests or values of AFRICDA, including disrespect, gossip, allegations with no substantive evidence, and unnecessary arguments.
- Involvement in unethical or illegal conduct.
- Resignation submitted in writing to the committee.
Decision-Making Quorum
A quorum of at least two-thirds of the committee members is required for any official decisions, ensuring broad consensus among the leadership.
Power of the Executive Secretary
The Executive Secretary is empowered to make critical decisions in the absence of the committee, particularly in urgent or time-sensitive situations. This includes:
- Operational Decisions: Ensuring the smooth functioning of AFRICDA.
- Emergency Actions: Taking immediate action during emergencies.
- Financial Expenditures: Approving necessary expenditures within a predefined limit.
- Strategic Initiatives: Initiating strategic initiatives that require prompt action, subject to subsequent review by the committee.
- The Executive Secretary must provide a detailed report of any such decisions at the next committee meeting, ensuring transparency and accountability.
